Melvin Lewis Wood, 86, passed away on January 30, 2020 at the St. Mary's County Hospice House in Callaway, Maryland. Born on October 17, 1933 in Adamant, Vermont he was the son of the late Harvey Wood and Ida Wood. He leaves behind his second wife, Geraldine Wood; sons, Tommy, Danny and Eddie and is predeceased by one son, Robert Wood.
Mr. Wood was a graduate of Williamstown High School and was the Top-Ranking Boy Scholastically in 1952. After graduation, he left Vermont to work for the FBI in Washington, DC as a Mail and File Clerk. While in DC, Mr. Wood served 8 years in the Washington DC Army National Guard. After leaving the FBI, he went to work for Western Electric where he rose to supervisor and remained for about 45 years with the Bell System/ATT.
"Woody", as he was affectionately known, enjoyed racing cars, wagering, the horses, golf, fishing, crabbing and cold beer. Woody was the proprietor of Keller's Market and part owner of B & G Tavern in Accokeek, MD. He was a long time member of the Swan Point Yacht and Country Club and the Accokeek Area Lions Club.
