John Benjamin Heiston, Sr., 69, of White Plains, Maryland died October 24, 2006 at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

He is preceded in death by his parents James and Nancy Heiston, as well as long-time friend Elsie Anderson.

He is survived by his brother Gene Heiston, sister-in-law Judy Heiston, former spouse Betty Broadway, and three children Dorothy Johnston, John Heiston, and Bonnie Heiston, as well as his three grand children, Laura, Krystal, and Heather and one great grand child, Makenzie.

John was born in Washington, D.C. June 24, 1937 and raised in Prince George's County Maryland. He was an iron worker by trade, and a member of Iron Workers Local Union 201 for 36 years, from 1955 until retirement in 1991. During his career, he contributed to numerous construction projects in Washington, D.C. and the surrounding metropolitan area. He enjoyed rooting for the Washington Redskins, and listening to his favorite country singer, Ernest Tubb, whom he personally met in 1959. He also enjoyed fishing, growing tomatoes and peppers, and spending time with family. Though he lived at Southwinds Apartments in White Plains for a short period of time, he gained many friends. He will be missed greatly by family and friends.

The family will receive friends for viewing from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 30th, 2006 at the Church of the Nazarene in Hollywood, Maryland. Funeral services will be held immediately following at the Church of the Nazarene at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are being provided by the Brinsfield Funeral Home in Leonardtown, Maryland.
