Mark Daniel Scott, age 57, of Charles County, Maryland, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones, on Friday, November 15, 2019. Born on March 7, 1962 in Clinton, Maryland, he was the son of Shirley Mae Scott and the late James Louis Scott. He married his wife Marybeth in 2005, with whom he spent over 21 years before his passing.

Mark could make a friend anywhere he went, especially if Washington sports were a topic of conversation. Mark was a proud fan of the 2019 World Series Champions, the Washington Nationals; the 2018 Stanley Cup Champions, the Washington Capitals; and despite perpetual upsets in recent years, Mark remained a loyal fan to the Washington Redskins.

Mark also loved his Harley Davidson, whom he named Gertie. Mark spent many years taking Gertie all around Maryland and Virginia and made many friends and memories along the way. Mark took Gertie out for a final ride in May 2019, a day which he fondly remembered.

Last, but certainly not least, Mark was a warrior. In October 2018, Mark was diagnosed with stage III pancreatic cancer. Despite the odds against him, Mark's character, humor, and will to live grew stronger throughout his 13-month battle. Even in his final days, Mark could make everyone around him laugh with his quick wit and sense of humor.

Mark is survived by his mother, Shirley Mae Scott; loving wife, Marybeth Scott; daughters, Rachel (Chris) Parker and Juliana Davis; son, Matthew (Kimberly) Davis; loyal dog, Koko; sisters, Katherine (Hank) Luers, Janet (Jeff) Morris, and Kim (Dale) Buchanan; brother, James Clifton (Cathy) Scott; and many nieces and nephews who dearly loved their Uncle Mark.

Please join the family to share stories of remembrance on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646, where a Visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, with a Memorial Service at 7:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mark's honor to the team "Make a Mark Against Pancreatic Cancer" for the 2020 Purple Stride Walk to End Pancreatic Cancer at http://support.pancan.org/site/TR?fr_id=1942&pg=team&team_id=24679. The proceeds for this walk go directly to the Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Network (PanCAN). PanCAN addresses pancreatic cancer through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, and advocacy, and was a wonderful source of information and support throughout Mark's journey. With a 5-year survival rate of just 9%, we hope that one day others will have a better chance of beating the disease that took Mark way too soon.
