John Lewis Perkins Sr., 93, of La Plata, Maryland, passed away on November 12, 2019 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata. Born on March 3, 1926 in Orange County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Mary Anna Starks Perkins and Roy L. Perkins Sr. John Lewis was a truck driver for the State Highway Administration who loved working on word puzzle books, watching Western movies and shows, riding his John Deere tractor and being with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son John L. Perkins Jr.; siblings Roy, Isaiah, Thomas, Joe, Lena, Lula, Mary Lee and Dorothy. John Lewis is survived by his wife of 74 years, Ruth E. Perkins; son Jeff Perkins and his wife Bonnie; brother Luther; daughter-in-law Mary A.; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters-in-law Edna Perkins of Orange, VA and Lottie Perkins of Culpeper, VA; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 5PM to 8PM with Memorial Service at 7PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646 Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Mt. Holy Baptist Church, (Unionville), 24035 Church Hill Road, Culpeper, Virginia 22701 beginning at 12Noon (visitation at the church from 11AM to 12Noon). Interment to follow in Mt. Holy Cemetery, Unionville, Virginia.
