Leon E. Gilbert, 91, of Prince Frederick, MD passed away on Oct. 11, 2008 at his home.

Mr. Gilbert was born April 10, 1917 in Brooklyn, MD to the late Walter Rowe and Pearl Zeller Gilbert. He severed in the Army during WWII and received as Purple Heart for wounds incurred in 1945 in Burma. He loved farming, which he did many years using horses; he also did some carpentry work. He was a member of Asbury Community Bible Church.

Beloved husband for 70 years of Margaret A. Gilbert , devoted father of Madeline and Donald Hutchins of Prince Frederick, Ann and Jim Dibble of Prince Frederick, Rowe and Barbara Gilbert of Phoenix, AZ, Leon and Linda Gilbert, Jr. of Ashland, Wis., David and Jackie Gilbert of Hunting town, Tim and Theresa Gilbert of Broomes Island, Gary Gilbert of Bisbee Az., the late Alan Gilbert and his wife Pat Gilbert.

He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and two sisters, Thelma Huntzberry of Prince Frederick and Doll Frank of Reisterstown, MD.

The family received friends on Wednesday October 15, 2008 from 10- 11 A.M. at Asbury Community Bible Church on Rt. 231, Barstow MD where services followed at 11 A.M. Interment was in Central Cemetery, Barstow MD. Pallbearers were Rowe Gilbert, Lee Gilbert, David Gilbert, Tim Gilbert, Alan Gilbert, Jr. and Gary Gilbert.
