Richard Henry Bennett, 89, of Lusby, MD, formerly of Hyattsville, MD, passed away peacefully at home on October 11, 2008. He was born May 8, 1919 in Leonardtown, MD to the late Richard and Blanche Nash Bennett.
He was the beloved husband to Charlotte Bennett. Richard graduated from Great Mills High School in 1937 and shortly thereafter joined the Army. He served his country honorably from February 3, 1941 to September 12, 1945 when he was discharged. Richard then went on to work as a Transportation Specialist for the Department of the Army as a civilian retiring in 1976 after 31 years of service. He moved to Lusby, MD in 1985 with his wife where he lived out his final days. Richard loved music, playing the saxophone, being a part of the Senior Vibes and being an Usher in church. He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings. He is survived by his wife Charlotte Bennett of Lusby, MD; daughters, Deborah Xinis of Owings, MD and Barbara Prawde of Olney, MD; sister, Elizabeth Gomez of Washington, DC; and four grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 13, 2008 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM in the Rausch Funeral Home, 20 American Lane, Lusby, MD. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at 11 AM in Middleham / St. Peters Episcopal Parish Church, Lusby, MD. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
