Robert Allen Nash, 83, of Great Mills, MD died October 5, 2008 in Prince George Hospital Center, Cheverly, MD.

Born July 2, 1925 in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late George Nash and Phyllis Rollison Nash. He was the husband of Carroll Anne Underwood Nash whom he married on November 16, 1950 in Richmond, Indiana.

Robert attended Ohio State University where he majored in geology. He served in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1966 after 20 years of service. While in the Navy during WWII, he was a tail gunner in the Pacific attached to various torpedo squadrons. He served aboard the USS Steamer Bay and the USS Altamaha, and was awarded five good conduct medals, American Victory WWII, Philippine Liberation and Asiatic Pacific Medals. Subsequent to his Navy career, he worked for the Navy Research Lab in Washington, DC and for NOAA at Patuxent River, MD from which he retired in 1977. He was a member of the BPOE, 2092 Fleet Reserve and former member of the Board of the American Cancer Society. He was a volunteer for "Meals on Wheels" and the "Road to Recovery".

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his sister, Jeanne Edmond of Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Thomas Arthur Nash.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD. Prayers will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 22375 Three Notch Road, Lexington Park, MD 20653. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
