Blake Alexander Shubert, 19, of St. Leonard, Maryland, died October 1, 2008 at Johns Hopkins Hospital from complications of cystic fibrosis. He was born June 30, 1989 in Hartford Connecticut, and lived in Hebron, Connecticut before moving to Calvert County in 1990.

Blake, a sophomore at the University of Maryland at College Park, was living his dream of being a Terp and he loved attending football and soccer games. A 2007 graduate of Patuxent High School, Blake was a four-year member of the soccer program and a proud member of the Panthers' 2006 SMAC championship team. He was also a four-year member of the lacrosse team and participated on the swim team for two years.

He loved spending time with his friends and family, and was a role model to others dealing with adversity. His friends will remember him for his enthusiastic positive attitude, his inquisitive nature, and his sense of humor and ability to make people laugh. Blake lived his short life to the fullest, enjoying fishing, surfing, snowboarding and singing in a band with his friends.

Blake is survived by his parents, Mark A. Shubert of St. Leonard, Pamela G. Shubert of Rockville, brother Jeffrey A. Shubert of St. Leonard, grandparents Leonora Shubert, Ellen Gallagher, and Harry Eby, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. His grandfather, Allen E. Shubert, predeceased him.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, October 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at the Rausch Funeral Home in Lusby, with services following at 7 p.m.

Inurnment at Chesapeake Highlands Memorial Gardens will be private.
