Charles Alexander Duffy, 91, of Lexington Park died peacefully with his family by his side on October 2, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown.

Born in Salisbury, Maryland on July 27, 1917 he was the son of the late Walter T. Duffy and Florence Malone. Charles served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he had a very long and distinguished career as a Sales Executive in the frozen food industry. After retiring at the age of 65, he served as a volunteer for many years, until his health prevented him from doing so.

His wife, Philomena Taglianetti, whom he married on February 11, 1954 in Baltimore, preceded him in death in 2003. Charles was also preceded in death by his two sisters, Louise Burns of Philadelphia, PA and Nellie Thomas of Lolo, Montana. He is survived by his daughter, Jeanne Marie Birrane, and son-in-law, Robert C. Birrane of Leonardtown. Charles is also survived by one grandson, Kristian Alexander Birrane and his wife, Heather of Pasadena, Maryland, and one granddaughter, Robyn Birrane Warner and her husband, Andrew of Lexington Park, Maryland.

Charles was the most cheerful and affectionate man who was loved dearly by his family and by his many friends. He especially loved his daughter and they had a very close bond. Family was everything to Charles and he showed this throughout his long life by his unselfish acts of kindness. He was a joy to everyone whose lives he touched; always able to put a smile on your face no matter what the circumstances. Charles touched lives and made friends wherever he went. He was recently honored as a "Hometown Hero" at Bayside Nursing Center "Hall of Fame" where he was presented for a life well-lived through his military service to his country, and years of community service. He will be missed by both his family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to Charles Duffy's Life Celebration on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Leonardtown. Interment will be in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Langhorne, PA.
