Jean Lister Monroe, of Harpswell, Maine died peacefully March 21, 2019 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Cmdr. William D. Monroe III, USN (Ret.); sons, David and Tom; daughter, Janine; one grandson; five granddaughters; and four great-grandchilden. She was preceded in death by her son, William D. Monroe IV.

Jean was born on Sept. 13, 1935, in Sheffield, England, to Tom and Olive Lister, served in the Royal Navy, and immigrated to America in 1959. She lived in Fort Washington, MD, while working in La Plata as an alcohol and substance abuse counselor, until she retired and moved to Harpswell, Maine with her family. She will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery.
