Norma Jean Melcher, 79, of Chesapeake Beach passed away March 10, 2019 at her home, surrounded by family. She was born April 11, 1939 in Washington D.C. to Norman N. Sr., and Vivian Inez (Slater) Fletcher. Norma was raised in Hyattsville and graduated from Northwestern High School. She married Donald Melcher on June 29, 1957 and they lived in Hyattsville and Adelphi before moving to Chesapeake Beach in 2000. Norma was primarily a homemaker and later worked as a transporter for MARC, now known as The ARC of Montgomery County. Norma was a member of Jesus the Divine Word Catholic Church and enjoyed crabbing, cooking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Vincent Melcher, daughter Cheryl Ann Lewis of Beltsville and grandchildren Michael Melcher, Carolyn Huddleston and husband Adam and Dale and Shelby Lewis. Also surviving are great-grandchildren William and Brianna Huddleston, sister Ruth Bowen, brother Norman Fletcher, Jr., goddaughter Lori Jean Bowen-Ferranti, sixteen nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Daisy. Norma was preceded in death by her son Brian Richard Melcher, sister Peggy Snyder and nephew Stephen Charlton. Arrangements by Rausch Funeral Home.
