John Roger Murphy, 63 of Mechanicsville, MD died on September 22, 2008 at his residence.

Born on September 22, 1945 in Bryantown, MD, he was the son of the late William Sylvester and Lillian Margaret Alvey Murphy.

Mr. Murphy has resided in this area for 31 years. He was a Heavy Machinery Operator for a Sand & Gravel Company. Prior he served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. His enjoyments were hunting with family members, listening to country, western, and blue grass music, playing cards, and gardening. One of his greatest enjoyments was watching his grandsons play football. He also was in a bowling league on Tuesday nights and was a pitcher on a softball team.

Survived by wife of 36 years, Deborah Bowling Murphy, children, Patricia Leigh Richardson (Paul D.) and John Wesley Murphy, both of Mechanicsville, MD, and Steven R. Murphy of Jessup, MD, siblings, Lillian (Sis) Rawlings and Daniel & David Murphy, of Mechanicsville, MD, Alice M. Burroughs of White Plains, MD, Melvin Murphy of Delaware, Edward Murphy & James O. Murphy, both of La Plata, MD, Joyce Fowler of Clinton, MD, Linda M. Fowler of LaPlata, MD and James O. Murphy of Charlotte Hall, MD.

Also survived by grandchildren, Chelsea Marie, Damon Aaron, Jared Donynell, and Adrian Paul Richardson.

In addition to his parents Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters.

Serving as Pallbearers will be: Buck, and Randy Oliver, Jimmy, Doug, Joey and Robert Murphy.

Family will receive friends for John's Life Celebration on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 from 5pm to 8pm in the Brinsfield -Echols Funeral Home, Charlotte Hall, MD. A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 11am in the funeral home chapel with Father Peter Alliata officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Newport cemetery.
