![]() Mr. Phifer was an AMTRAK Engineer for 28 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of VFW, Moose Lodge, and St. Peter's Catholic Church. He enjoyed working on cars, computers, woodworking, painting, and taxidermy. He was known for his Hawaiian shirts with a nickname Butterball.
He was son of the late Sidney Phifer and the late Edna Harrison Phifer. He was predeceased by his parents. and one son, Donald S. Phifer. He is survived by his wife, Joan Marie Phifer; one son, Stephen L. (Kim) Phifer, Jr., of Waldorf, MD, two brothers, Russell Harrison of North Carolina and Sidney Phifer of FL.; three sisters, Penny Latham, Susie Campbell, and Betty Francisco, all of VA; four grand children, Desire', Dawson, Dakota, and Stephen Phifer, III. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, La Plata, MD. A Funeral Service will follow on Monday, September 22, 2008 at 11 AM at Raymond Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, MD. Clergy will be the Rev. Mark Robertson.
