James Floyd Woodland (affectionately known as Boot) was born on April 9, 1940 to the late James H. and Veronica Woodland. He was the third of eight children. He departed this life on September 4, 2008 at his residence in Mechanicsville, MD after a lengthy illness.

James was raised in St. Mary's County, Maryland and attended public schools there. In 1960 he relocated to New York and worked as a mechanic. James returned to St. Mary's County in 1970.

Due to health reasons. Once his health improved, he worked at St. Mary's County Board of Education and J&W Construction Company. After retirement he worked part time at Leonardtown Sunoco. James was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Morganza, MD.

James was a very out-going person. With his winning smile and cheerful disposition he easily made friends. In his spare time, James loved to do mechanical work. At any given time, you could find him working on someone's car. For relaxation, he enjoyed playing the one arm "bandit". James was a great conversationalist and enjoyed being with family and friends.

James leaves to cherish his memory, three children, Yvonne Woodland of Washington, DC, Jimmy Woodland (Lisa) of Brandywine, MD and Judy Woodland of Raeford, NC; one brother Thomas X. Woodland (Doris) of Queens, NY; five sisters, Shirley E. Bond, Leonardtown, MD, Lillian Stevens (Emory) of Leonardtown, MD, Mildred Stevenson (Aulander) of Washington, DC, Margaret G. Stevens of Washington, DC and Zelma Thompson (Randolph) of Bryans Road, MD, six grandchildren; Shamiya Shoda (James), Shuntell, Trenice, Jimmy, Jr., Brandon and Tiesha Woodland and a host of nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents and brother Warren Woodland.

Family will receive friends on Friday, September 12, 2008 from 9am to 10am in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 29119 Point Lookout Rd. Morganza, MD 20660 Where a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 29119 Point Lookout Rd, Morganza, MD 20660. Reverend Keith Woods will be the celebrant. Inurnment Queen of Peace Cemetery, Helen, MD.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's County Department on Aging, Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 653, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
