Helen Ann Yates, age 49, died September 1, 2008 at her residence in Harwood, due to cancer. She was born February 17, 1959 in Washington, D.C., and was raised in Seat Pleasant, MD until moving with her family to North Beach at the age of thirteen.

She attended Northern High School, and graduated from Suitland High School in 1976. She married Theodore B. "Teddy" Yates November 5, 1976, and they lived in Waysons Corner for many years.

She was a hairdresser, and worked at Shear Perfection in Chesapeake Beach until her retirement in 2006 due to her illness. She was an avid Washington Redskins fan, and also enjoyed crochet, knitting, sewing and embroidery.

She was preceded in death by her father Raleigh F. Midkiff, Sr. and her sister Mitzi DePhillip.

She is survived by her husband Theodore B. "Teddy" Yates, Jr., her son Theodore B.Yates III and his wife Krista, a grand-daughter Carly Renee Yates, her mother Blanche Midkiff, a sister Rose Newgent and her husband John, a brother Raleigh F. Midkiff, Jr. and his wife Jodi, and her in-laws Elizabeth Ann and James D. Gibson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
