Dr. Alan Kulp Jenkins was born on November 4, 1961 to Thomas H. Jenkins, Jr. (deceased) and Jane C. Jenkins in Birmingham, Alabama. He passed away peacefully on September 17, 2018. He is survived by two sisters and two brother-in-laws, Libby J. Kimball and Lewis E. Kimball (Brooklet, Georgia) and Lisa J. Dempsey and Bill Dempsey (Dothan, Alabama), two nieces, Leigh Ann Robinson and Hannah Leigh Kimball, and one nephew, David Thomas Robinson.

Dr. Al (as he was named by his coworkers) was an Eagle Scout and attended Shades Valley High School in Birmingham, Alabama where he played in the Shades Valley Band. He continued this activity throughout his college years at Auburn University. He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelors of Electrical Engineering. He continued his post graduate work earning a Masters of Physics at the Naval Postgraduate School and a Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership from the University of Phoenix.

He was employed at Naval Air Systems Command as the Assistant Program Manager for Test and Evaluation, PMA 274 and Lead Test Engineer for the H-46 Helicopter, HX-21. Dr. Al was devoted to his coworkers at Naval Air Systems Command. He also served as adjunct faculty for Grand Canyon University where he worked closely with his students.

Dr. Al was a member of the Capital Region Flat Coated Retriever Club, a licensed Retriever Hunt Test Judge for the American Kennel Club and North American Hunting Retriever Association. He published several books including a children's book about Katie, his Flat Coated Retriever, "My Best Girl." He was an active member of a spiritual community, a loving brother, uncle, and friend to all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made as a memorial gift to the ALS Association at www.alsa.org or mailed to The ALS Association Gift Processing Center, PO Box 37022, Boone, IA, 50037-0022. Services will be private. Arrangements by the Brinsfield Funeral Home of Leonardtown, MD.
