Augustus "Morty" Welch, Jr., 91, of La Plata, MD passed away on August 26, 2008 at the Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. His parents; Augustus M. Welch and Lena Rebecca Arnold predecease Augustus. His Wife; Picola Welch, his Brother; Arnold Welch, and Sisters; Virginia Meredith and Betty Willett also predecease him.

He is survived by his companion; Catherine Cooksey. Stepchildren; Denny Zaugg and Christine Burch. He is also survived by his Sisters; Marion Rentz, Nina Boles, Faith Delvo (Herman), and Ruth Hogan, and Six Step-Grandchildren, and many Nieces and Nephews.

Morty was a Navy World War II Veteran who had served on the Battleship Indiana. He was a Catholic man who enjoyed Traveling, Farming and working at a Saw Mill in Welcome, MD. He was a past member of the Farm Bureau and the American Legion.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2008 from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm with Prayers at 7 pm at AREHART-ECHOLS FUNERAL HOME, P.A. in La Plata, MD. A funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 11 am. Rev. David Beaubien will officiate. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD.

Memorial contributions can be made to either the Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center or Hospice of Charles County.
