Charles Benjamin Tansill, 99, of La Plata, MD passed away on July 19, 2018 at the Charles County Hospice House in Waldorf, MD. Charles was born in Columbus, OH on December 25, 1918. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Callan Tansill, his mother Helen Parker Tansill, his son Charles Raymond Tansill and by his beloved wife of 66 years, Doris Tansill. He is survived by his son Daniel Tansill, daughters Mary Ann Tansill, Patricia Magruder and Elizabeth, grandchildren Doris, Larry, George, Frances, Elmer, Michael and Katherine, great-grandchildren Josephine, Kristoff, Alexandria, Alison, William, and Jimmy; Elizabeth's step-children Marianne and John, their children Sean, James, Sharie, Jessica, Amy, and Tina, and their children Landyn, Harley, Jay, Christian, Vincent and Lucas. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Charles grew up in Washington, DC and was a graduate of McKinley Tech High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Tec 5 in the 539th Field Artillery Battalion, European Theatre. He was a life member of the St. Charles Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed competing and set national, state, and club shooting records. Charles retired from C&P Telephone Co. after 36 years of employment and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. His greatest pleasure came from spending time with his family, friends, and his cat Tom.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 2PM to 4PM and from 6PM to 8PM at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home (211 St. Mary's Ave., La Plata, MD). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 9AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (201 St. Mary's Ave., La Plata, MD). Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham (11301 Crain Hwy., Cheltenham, MD).
