Peggy Murphy Gardiner, 72, of La Plata, died on November 14, 2006, after a valiant five year battle with ovarian cancer. Born November 14, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Edwin J. Murphy and Mary Ann Rohe Murphy. Her activities in the community icluded many years of work with the Childrens' Aid Society, Hospice of Charles County, St. Mary's-Ryken High School Board, Archbishop Neale School Board, and literacy tutoring. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Hugh C. Gardiner, III; children, Patricia Waters, Michael, Mark, Bill, High C. Gardiner, IV, and Julie Glorioso; gradchildren, Andrew and Kristen Waters, Shawn, John, Meredith, Mary T., Elizabeth, Charlie, Henry Gardiner, Michael and David Glorioso.

Friends may call on Friday, November 17, 2006 at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home from 2-5 and 7-9PM with prayers at 8PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Chapel Point, MD at 10AM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Charles County, and the Lombardi Cancer Center, Ovarian Cancer Research, Georgetown University.
