![]() THE ANGELES IN HEAVEN DONE SIGNED MY NAME, AUGUST 13 2008 Jeryle Virginia Williams Dorsey, was born in Charles County, Maryland, on June 22, 1949 to the late Daniel J. and Ida Mae Williams (Woods). Step daughter to the late Leroy Woods.
Jeryle attended the Charles County Public Schools. She later started her working career at the Indian Head Naval Base; she later chose to take her carrier to Washington, DC. to work for The United States Department of Veterans Affairs, were she gave 38 years of Federal Government Service. After a year long battle with health issues, Jeryle decided to retire December 31, 2006. Over the course of her career span Jeryle met and fell in love with Emerson Dorsey of South Carolina. They married December 14, 1968, out of this union produced one daughter- Teba Lashawn Dorsey White Barnett (Michael) and one son - Anwar Dorsey. Jeryle is also survived by her three grandchildren, Renee and Tyra White and Michael Barnett, Jr. Also left to mourn is her dog, Rosie, six siblings; June Williams Brown, Daniel (Thelma), Jerome (Wanda) Williams, Jocelyn (Man) Williams Richardson, Rev. Jacques (Mary) Williams, and Queen Ann Woods Nivel. Preceding her in death were her siblings ; Joyce Diane, Jeffery (Sandra), and John (Jeanette) Williams. Jeryle is also survived by four Elders on her mothers side; Helen (William) Minor, Bernard, and William (Linda) Thomas and Ella (Charles) Hoaney. Her surviving in-laws are: Floyd (Edith), Willie, Eugene (Carrie), Truman (Ann), Levine, Devem (Mildred) Dorsey, Doretha (Cyliss) Nieth, Mary Moore, and Essie (Nathaniel) Barr. Preceded them also in death were; Maybelle Moore, Richard and Betsey Dorsey. Jeryle also leaves behind several Godchildren, Nieces, and Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews, Cousins, Family and Friends, whom she had a special relationship with each. This also included her best friend of many years, Conchita (Mike) Walls. At an early age, Jeryle accepted Christ as her LORD and Savior and joined the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church, under the leadership of the former Pastor Donald Ford. Throughout her untiring and devoted service for the LORD, Jeryle served with a humble spirit with several choir ministries, study ministries, leadership and non-leadership positions. She also participated in several book clubs, was a member of the Washington Unity Choral Union/National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses, Inc., which she held leadership positions for many years. Her interest in Blacks in Government and the performing arts led her to perform a One Woman Act during the Black History period for various churches, charitable events and organizations. Jeryle was an avid researcher and historian for all our family history needs. She became very excited that she would be a part of history that included the nomination of an Afro-American (Barack Obama) as President of The United States of America. Her T shirts often reflected that excitement. Jeryle continued to be a woman of many hats and was known for her stylish dressing, jewelry, fancy hand bags and had such an array of hats that she could have opened her own hat shop. A side from all of this, Jeryle was a just, honest, caring, unselfish, kind-hearted, sweet-spirit, and easygoing, steadfast and unconditional loving woman of God. "Tac" as she was affectionately called by her oldest niece and nephew, because she was always dressed "Sharp As- A- Tac," was famous for being the perfect host when she entertained her family and friends during Holidays or when ever you came to her home. She always made you feel welcomed. Her cooking was De-LI-CI-OUS!!! We thank the LORD for allowing us the opportunity to be a part of His Angels' life. She touched us in a Mighty and Powerful Way. Her viewing will be held on Monday, August 18th, 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Thornton Funeral Home, PA, Indian Head, MD and on Tuesday, August 20th, 10:00am until service time 11:00am at Metropolitan United Methodist Church, Indian Head, Maryland.
