Mary was born April 5, 1935 to the late Benny and Virginia Thomas of Newburg, Maryland. The Lord called her home on Friday, May 24, 2018. Mary attended the Charles County public school systems; she was employed by the Charles County Nursing Home in La Plata, Maryland as a Nursing Assistant and Best Western Hotel with the house keeping staff. She also served as a personal caregiver to various family and friends. Mary was affectionately called, Momma Barnes, Grandma, Granny Mary and Auntie. She was a very loving, kind and gentle person with a heart of gold who opened her home to anyone, no matter who you were, she never judged you. Her past-time was bingo, playing cards, Casino, doing puzzles, cooking and enjoying her grandchildren.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Benny and Virginia Thomas, husband, Joseph Barnes, step father, George Jake Thomas, Sister, Barbara Washington, brothers, Joseph Thomas and John Henry Thomas. She leaves to cherish fond memories, her precious children, Sylvia Thomas, Calvin Barnes, Bernice Hemsley (Kelvin), Edward Barnes, John Barnes (Latoya) and Roxy Barnes, brothers, Charles Thomas (Patricia), George Thomas (Dee), William Thomas and James Thomas; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, special cousin, Sis,' Kor -Kor and a host of other family members and friends.
