Gene Ernest Fleming, 61, was called home to his final resting place on August 11, 2008.

He was born on July 4, 1947 to Lena Alberta Fleming and the late Francis A. Fleming.

Gene gave his life to Christ and became a member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden. He enjoyed life to the fullest while spending it with his family. Gene loved his family and it showed through his close and consistent involvement. Gene's relaxed personality made it comfortable for a host of nephews and nieces to be around among many friends and family members. Gene also enjoyed fishing, hunting and working on cars.

Gene is survived by his mother, Lena Alberta Fleming and his wife, Rose Fleming. Gene and Rose Fleming were the proud parents of five children, Jean M. Fleming, Gene E. Fleming, Jr., Catherine Fleming, Paul E. Fleming and Robert E. Fleming. In addition he is survived by his grandchildren whom he loved and cherished with all his heart: Delontae Fleming, Deshawntae Fleming, John J. Ruff, Daysean Snow, Charmayne Fleming, Jermaine Fleming, Alize Fleming, Amize Fleming, Khail Fleming and Schatera Fleming, four brothers; Francis Fleming, Jr., Garry M. Fleming, Donnell J. Fleming, James J. Fleming; three sisters, Dorothy M Leak, Veronica R. Fleming, and Elizabeth A. Fleming; five nephews, eight nieces, one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, eleven great nieces, seven great nephews, and a host of relatives, loved ones and friends.

Gene was predeceased by his father Francis Augustus Fleming, Sr., his brother Bernard Jerry Fleming, his sister Catherine Yvonne Fleming, and a nephew Phillip M. Harley (Phil).

Viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. until time of service 10:00 a.m. at Thornton Funeral Home, 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland. Internment at Heritage Memorial Cemetery, Waldorf, MD.
