Brenda Marie Dodson, 68, of La Plata, MD passed away on April 4, 2018 at her residence after a long battle with cancer. She was born on February 18, 1950 in La Plata, MD to the late Theresa Elder Dyer and late Julian Gardiner Dyer. She was the loving wife to David Berry Dodson whom she married on November 14, 1970 in Port Tobacco, MD.

Brenda graduated from Archbishop Neale School in 1968 and went on to work for Charles County Board of Education before becoming a homemaker. After her children were grown, Brenda worked for the family business, Southern Maryland Gas, Inc. Brenda belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Plata, MD where she was also a member of the Sodality. She loved her flowers, antique hunting, the beach and spending time at the river. Brenda's biggest pride and joy was being Mamaw to her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Katherine Hancher (Jeffrey), Braden Dodson (Kathleen), and Loren Belfield (Justin); grandchildren, Andrew, Jensen, Karsyn, Taylor, Morgan, Alex, Garrett, Jacob and Alexis; siblings, Eleanor Adams, Richard Dyer (Mary Jo), late Mary Raba (Oscar), Susan Gardiner, Michael Dyer (Kim), Brian Dyer, and Nancy Thompson (Hoover), and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, April 8 at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata, MD from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm with prayers at 6:15 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, April 9 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Plata, MD at 10 am with Monsignor Oliver McGready officiating. Interment will immediately follow mass at St. Peter's Cemetery in Waldorf, MD. In lieu of flowers the family ask for contributions to be made in Brenda's name to Mary's Food Pantry, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Plata, MD.
