George Wobick Holmes was born on July 25, 1961 at Aberdeen, SD to Rexford and Gertrude (Wobick) Holmes in Mansfield, SD, where his parents owned and operated Holmes Grocery. George attended Northwestern High School in Mellette, SD, where he wrestled and was Class President. After graduating in 1979, he attended South Dakota State University and later, Northern State University. After college, George enlisted in the Air Force. He was chosen to work at the White House for the White House Communications Agency. George was currently working for Juniper Networks.

George married Lisa Davis on August 26, 1989 in Charlotte Hall, MD. They made their home with their children Rexford and Sarah in La Plata, MD. George loved being with his family and loved his visits back home to Mansfield. He was very proud of his children and supported them in all they did. George was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. He took pride in his home and yard, always keeping it nice. George was a voracious reader. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, hunting, fishing and boating. George always reserved Friday evenings for family night.

Grateful for having shared George's life are his wife, Lisa Holmes and children, Rexford and Sarah, of La Plata, MD; five sisters: Anita Johnson, Stratford, SD; Barbara (Bob) Hubbert, Carrolton, TX; Linda (Tom) Biffert, Volga, SD; Roxanne (Roger) Ford, Las Vegas, NV; Tammy (Tom) Guthmiller, Mansfield, SD; parents-in-law, Bruce & Ellen Davis, La Plata, MD; in-laws: Sue Davis and Mike McCook, La Plata, MD, Sally Davis, La Plata, MD and many nieces & nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents.

The family prefers memorials for the children's college.

The prayer service for George Holmes, 47, La Plata, MD, will be 11:00am, Sunday, August 10, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church in Mansfield, SD, Pastor Jon Damaska officiating. Funeral services are at Christ Church, Durham Parish, Ironsides, MD. George died Wednesday, August 6, in Fargo, ND.

Visitation: one hour prior to the prayer service at the church. Arrangements by Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.
