Paul Matthew Servaty, 70, of Clements, MD died on October 28, 2006 at his home in Clements, MD.
He was born November 20, 1935 in Flushing, NY. Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 18, where he earned numerous awards and commendations, retiring in 1974. His Naval career took him from Antarctica to Great Britain, developing his love for the sea. In 1960 he married Lula Mae Allen of Tennessee. In Southern Maryland, Paul worked as a marine mechanic at Cedar Cove Marina and later at Kopel's Marina, building a reputation for meticulous, professional and uncompromising work. He shared his love for boating and fishing with many people, enjoying frequent outings with family and guests. Following his retirement in 2002, he made frequent outings to Shark's Tooth and St. Clement's Islands and other points of interest with his grandchildren. Paul was also an enthusiastic motorcyclist, and a frequent participant in area rides and events. He was a member of Maryland ABATE and the Harley Owners Group. In his later years, Paul realized his life-long dream of flying when he took up Ultra-light Aviation and with characteristic diligence, enthusiasm and application, quickly gained respect in the aviation community. Known to his fellow aviators as "Outlaw", Paul honed his flying skills almost daily and participated in numerous events and fly-ins. Applying his superb maintenance skills to his first Ultra-light aircraft, a kit-built Kolb Firestar, he took 1st place prizes in several competitions, including Reserve Grand Champion at the Sun-and-Fun Aviation Rally in Florida. Through good times and bad, Paul remained steadfastly dedicated to his wife and family, and coming to grips with terrible weakness in the end, upheld the Servaty family honor. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lula Mae Allen Servaty of Clements, MD, two daughters, Mary Ann McMaster of Hollywood, MD, Karen Lynn Servaty of Clements, MD, three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and a sister, Carolyn Walter of South Carolina. Public visitation will be held on Monday, November 6, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD.
