![]() William Arthur Edelen better known as "Arthur," was born in Charles County, Maryland on December 24, 1924 to the late James Leonard and Carrie Edelen. He attended Charles County Public Schools where he earned his education. Arthur was a farmer for many years and worked at the Mayberry Sawmill in Charles County, Maryland. From there, he relocated to Washington, D.C. and was employed for the Arundel Asphalt Company for thirty years until he retired. Arthur was a resident of Washington, D.C. for approximately 42 years and then relocated to Waldorf, Maryland in 2005.
Arthur enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, but as everyone knew, "he was a great talker." He loved watching his western T.V. shows (especially "Shoot Um Up"). He also loved gardening as a hobby. He would always come down to the country to visit before leaving the D.C. area; especially on holidays at his sister's house to eat a home cooked meal. Arthur attended "Our Lady of Christian Catholic Church" in Waldorf, Maryland. Arthur leaves to cherish his memories: his loving daughter, Gwendolyn A. Chase, (son-in-law) John A. Chase, one grandson, Ryan L. Hicks (wife, Kia L. Hicks) one great granddaughter, Briana N. Hicks, brothers; James L. Edelen, John F. Edelen and George A. Edelen and one beloved sister; Mary A. Brown. He also leaves to cherish a special nephew, John O. Edelen and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends. Arthur departed this life peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland. In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his brothers; Thomas E. Edelen and John S. Edelen and sisters; Mary D. Johnson and Carrie E. Bennett. His services will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2008, 8:30am until Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newport, Maryland. Interment Church Cemetery.
