Mary Virginia (Carter-Curtis) Bush, the daughter of the late Mary Madeline (Curtis) Young and the late Frederick Carter and step-daughter of the late James S. Young, Sr. was born on January 12, 1943 in St. Mary's County (Maddox) Maryland. In addition to her parents and step-father, Mary was preceded in death by her children; Julia Lucille (Bush) Farris and Betty Marie Bush, great-grandchild, Demetri Hooper, brother, James S. Young Jr., brothers-in-law, Rudolph Mims and James Bush, sister-in-law, Mary A. Bush.

Mary received her education at the Fenwick Elementary School in Bushwood, Maryland. She then went to Banneker High School in Loveville, Maryland. After dropping out of high school, she went back to Chopticon High School in 1981 and received her diploma with her second oldest daughter, Flora Gantt at the age of 38. Mary was proud of her life because she had promised her Grandma Curtis she would graduate.

She was joined in matrimony on December 31, 1960 to her late husband, Arthur E. Bush, Jr. and together they raised five loving children. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church located in Washington, D. C. where she was a teacher for the CCD class on Sunday mornings, worked on the Share Program. She was also a member of the Bold Ministry. Mary worked as a Rental Consultant with Southern Management Corporation and after 44 years retired, June 2010.

Mary leaves to cherish special memories her children; Genevieve "Annette" Hebb, Flora E. Gantt, Alice Baruwa, Tony E. Bush, Sr. and Tina Marshall; grandchildren, Mikel Barbour, Latasha Brown, Christopher Bush, Tonisha Bush, Tony E. Bush, Jr., Kandeh Turay, Shantel Bright, John Q. Bush, Martin Kamara , Shaquita Hebb, Denieca Marshall, Shawnice Marshall and Denita Whittaker; great grandchildren, Sean Richardson, Kah'Niyah Bush, Zaviana Bush, Jaheim Knott, Juliyah Dickens, Elijah C. Bush, Jeremiah C. Bush, Cragg Bush, Justyse Dodson, Harmony Bush, Zahava Bush, Jonah Kamara, Jayden Harvey, Julianne Smotherman, Dayvionne Brown, Altovese Turay, Kaidyn Turay and Janiyah Kamara, godchildren, Louis Thomas, Jr., Catherine Holton, Ethel Young, Jasmine Blaine, sisters and brothers, Mary Agnes Anderson, Shirley Ann Young, Catherine Ann Mims, James S. Ford, Roderick Young, Horace Carter, brothers-in-law, James W. Anderson, Frederick Holton, William J. Bush and Thomas C. Bush; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ford, Joell Young, Catherine Holton, Ann Bush, Patricia Bush and Veronica Pope; sons-in-law, Quintin Hebb, Larry Baruwa and Dennis Marshall; great aunt, Mary Odessa Curtis and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Viewing 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am, Saturday, September 16, 2017 at St. Thomas More Parish, 4275 4th Street, S.E., Washington, D.C. 20032. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Road, Clinton, Maryland 20735. Arrangements by Thornton Funeral Home.
