James Edward Ford of La Plata, Maryland died on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He was 82 years old.

Born in Brice Chapel, Maryland on September 1, 1925, he was the son of Morgan and Eunice Ford. James was a native of La Plata, MD and resided in Bel Alton, MD. He attended Bel Alton High School. In 1943, he was drafted in the United States Navy, serving during World War II until his term of duty ended in 1946. Upon his release, he worked at the Naval Ordinance Station in Indian Head, MD for 37 years as a propellant handler. While working at NOS, he received many awards and certificates for his outstanding service.

James' hobbies were gardening, yard work and playing cards. He especially enjoyed visits from his nieces and nephews. Although he was a quiet, kind soul, he had a great sense of humor and loved to hear funny stories.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Dorothy Bell, Martha Robinson, Lydia Keys and Ann Taylor; brothers Almond, Homer, and Earl Ford.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Madeline Ford; one stepson James Leroy Thomas; one sister Louise Ford; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 9-10:30am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am with Father Fred MacIntyre officiating. Interment to follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Cheltenham, MD. Pallbearers are Joseph Thomas, Calvin Thomas, James Smoot, Thomas Keys, Joseph Dyer and Terrence Adams. Honorary Pallbearers are Glen Thomas and Gary Keys.
