Michael David "Mike" Sharkey, 54, of Great Mills, MD passed away on July 4, 2008 in Prince Frederick, MD. He was born on October 29, 1953 in Corvallis, OR to the late Hubert Joseph Sharkey and Dorothy Sauter Sharkey.

Mike was the loving husband of Cathy Sharkey. Mike was in the Navy for six years and served our country honorably from 1979 to 1985. He went to the University of the State of New York and received his BS Degree in 1996 and then went on to get his Master's of Science in Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 2003.

Mike worked for the Department of Defense at Patuxent River Naval Air Station as a Systems Engineer. He was currently working with the BAMS Program (Broad Area Maritime Surveillance) and was recently awarded the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award for his outstanding and dedicated service to the Department of the Navy.

Mike loved a good day of fishing and riding his Harley Davidson.

He was preceded in death by his father Hubert Joseph Sharkey and his brother John Sharkey.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Cathy Sharkey of Prince Frederick, MD; mother and brother, Dorothy and Dennis Sharkey both of Ohio; mother & father in-law, Allen and Eleanor Selig; brothers & sisters in-laws, Allen Selig, Jr., Sharon Selig, Russell Selig, Cathie Selig, Patricia Vetterle, and Paul Vetterle; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Rausch Funeral Home Chapel, Lusby, MD with Pastor William Davis officiating. The family request in memory of Mike for contributions to be made to the Calvert Hospice, P.O. Box 838, Prince Frederick, MD 20678.
