Gene Melvin Carroll Sr., peacefully departed this life on April 27, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Gene Melvin, affectionately known as ""Shorty"", was born April 12, 1931 to the late George Samuel and Annie Lucille Carroll in Beachville, MD. He attended Cardinal Gibbons institute in Ridge, MD. Gene married Frances Louvenia Carroll on June 26,1954 and from this holy union seven children were born.

Throughout Gene's life he has worn many hats. He was a waterman, plumber, car detailer at Park Pontiac and Aldridge Ford and was employed with Portzen Brothers. He retired from F&P Paving; which was the best. His favorite pastime was working in his yard, making sure that it was always well kept, playing with the grandkids and talking ""stuff"" with his friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucille Carroll; his loving wife, Frances; son, Joseph; stepdaughter, Brenda Barnes; three brothers, Granville (Stick), Clarence (Ed) and George (Tony) Carroll and his mother-in-law, Mary Price. Gene leaves fond memories in the hearts of his children, Joyce Carroll, of Waldorf MD, Wayne (Patricia) Carroll, of Clinton MD, Sylvia Rothwell, of Lexington Park, MD, Gene Melvin, Jr. (Audrey) Carroll, of Waldorf, MD, James (Vera) Carroll, of Bowie, MD, Michael Carroll, of Lexington Park, MD and Patrick (Lavonne) Carroll, of Port Tobacco, MD; three sisters, Bertelle Bryan, Dorothy Barnes and Geraldine Carroll; daughter-in- law, Pamela Carroll and son-in-law, Ray Barnes, fifteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family and friends will unite on Monday, May 8, 2017 for visitation at 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 22375 Three Notch Rd, Lexington Park, MD 20653. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Arrangements by Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home.
