![]() Philip Howard Ayer of Waldorf, Maryland died on June 18, 2008 at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He was 79 years.
Born on December 5, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of the late Philip Melvin Ayer and Katherine Viola Melin Ayer. He worked as an Administrator with General Dynamics and for a security company. He served in the U. S. Navy where he was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon First Award, Korean Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Medal. He was a very active member of the Calvary United Methodist Church where he served as Choir Director, Treasurer, Building Administrator, just to name a few. Phil had a life-long passion for music and was an accomplished singer. He was a founding member of the "Southern Mix" College of Southern Maryland Barbershop Chorus for ten years and a member of the Chorus of the Chesapeake out of Dundalk, Maryland. A member of the V.F.W. Post 8810 in Waldorf where he served as Chaplain, member of AmVets and the D.A.V. He also sang in two quartets, with one, they won the Senior Championship. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Patricia Ayer Chapman and Marian Ayer Doty. He is survived by his wife Hannah N. Ayer; children Teresa DiMora and her husband Frank of Lompoc, CA, Christine Ayer of Alamaeda, CA, Linda Shores and her husband Othello of Richmond, CA, Edith and her husband Jeff of Dryden, CA, Elaine Roberts and her husband Robin of Ashland, O, Philip Ayer and his wife Erica of Anchorage, Alaska, Joanne Dyson and her David of Reedsville, NC, William Hadenbucher of Long View, TX, Dawn Smith and her husband Gregory of Haw River, NC; 27 grandchildren Christiana, Adriana, Joel, Hannah, Share, Emily, Jason, Shawn, Jay Paul, Sarah, Ashley, Adam, Adrien, Natalie, Brianna, Evan, Stephanie, Shannon, Eva, Kendra, Marla, Lucia, Amanda, Luke, Katelyn, Lindsey, Sam; seven great grandchildren Arianna, Maverick Montana, Cayden, Kyree, Jace, Aubrey, McKenzie. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, June 27, 2008 from 6PM to 8PM at the Calvary United Methodist Church 3235 Leonardtown Road Waldorf, MD 20602 where Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 11AM with the Reverend Robert D. Carter, Pastor officiating. Interment will be private. Arrangements provided by Raymond Funeral Service. |
