Bernard George "Bernie" Fuller, 77, of Hughesville died June 21 at Southern Maryland Hospital.

Born Sept. 11, 1930 in Queens, New York, he was the son of the late Margaret M. and Charles Bartholomew Fuller. He was a member of the Irish honor society Order of Hibernian.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth June Fuller, whom he met and married in 1950 in Shreveport, LA., and his 4 daughters; Margaret Diamond and her husband Donald of Waldorf; Gloria Brooks of Waldorf; Lorraine Logan and her husband Bob Jr. of Waldorf; Susan Cross and her husband Glenn of Hughesville; and 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his siblings George Fuller, Geraldine Fuller, Charles Fuller and Margaret Hoyle.

Bernie left New York City at age 17 and enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1947 and was stationed at many air bases serving our country during the Cold War in the US Air Force providing support in fighter wings, reconnaissance wings and long-range bomber wings. He was stationed with his family at Fairfield RAF England and Eielson AFB Alaska during the 1964 earthquake. Bernie was a fuel supply supervisor in support of Strategic Air Command during the Cold War and supervised fuel quality at Andrews AFB. During after hours he enjoyed playing baseball in teams on base. He retired as Master-Sergeant in 1969 having served 22 years and he and his family settled in Waldorf. He was a member of the Air Force Reserves until honorably discharged in 1977.

Bernie worked for 16 years with RMP International delivering rebuilt parts for Ford and then worked at Suburban Propane delivering fuel. He enjoyed taking others fishing on his boat, bowling and playing golf with his friends, watching the Redskins and going to Washington National ball games. He was a nobleman of good deeds, who never had an enemy and always served others with a sense of duty, providing many years of sacrificial care during his wife's illness and was a loving father and grandfather.

A Life celebration will be held on Friday, June 27, 2008 from 6pm to 8pm in the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home with an evening service at 7pm.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday, June 30, 2008 at Noon in the Funeral Home Chapel with Glenn Cross officiating. Interment will follow in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
