On Tuesday, January 3, 2017, John Sidney Gray of Waldorf, Maryland and Charlotte Hall Veterans Home after many years of battle from a disability sustained while in the military. Beloved Father of son Jonathan Gray of La Plata, MD and daughter Claudia Gray-Onque of Montgomery Village, MD; also surviving, grandchildren, Charlese Jones of Hollywood, CA, Jonathan Gray II of Waldorf, MD, Crystal Jones of Philadelphia, PA, Jonte' Gray of Waldorf, MD, and Charlay Jones of Silver Spring, MD and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was fondly called by his middle name "Sidney." He graduated from Armstrong High School and attended some college and trade schools. He was a dedicated soldier in the U.S. Army and during his tour of duty he trained, traveled and boxed. In 1954, he was a Welter Weight Golden Gloves Boxing Champion. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He took great pride in mentoring amateur boxers, teaching and playing tennis, traveling, and working as a dental technician as well as brief career as a successful life insurance agent.

A celebration of life will be held from 11am until time of service 12 noon on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the New Hope Church of God, 4200 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, MD 20601.
