Herbert Stanley "Herbie" Vermillion, age 65, of La Plata, Maryland, died on Friday, December 16, 2016 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata. Born on March 18, 1951 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Lucy Magdalene and the late Martin George Vermillion.

For many years, Herbie was an automotive and truck mechanic for Sheehy Ford and Wilson Powell Lincoln Mercury dealerships. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, coin collecting, rooting for his favorite teams, the Washington Nationals and the Washington Redskins, but most importantly, spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Herbie was a Christian and attended the La Plata Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Lamont D. Vermillion. Herbie is survived by his wife of 46 years, Pamela Jean Vermillion; his children Elizabeth Magdalene Cecil and her husband Alan, James Herbert Vermillion; grandchildren Gregory Ryan Cecil, Benjamin Herbert Cecil, Caitlin Renee Vermillion, and Kristine Estelle Vermillion; great grandchildren Lylah Marie Cecil, Payton McKenzie Cecil and Orion Ember Zimmerman; siblings Margot Cabral, Martin Vermillion and his wife Connie; many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 11 AM until time for the Celebration of Life to begin at 1 PM at the La Plata Church of Christ, 1 Calvert Street, La Plata, MD 20646 with Minister Lance Riddick officiating. Pallbearers are Gregory and Benjamin Cecil, Martin, Thomas, Carson and Gregory Vermillion. Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to La Plata Church of Christ 1 Calvert Street La Plata, MD 20646. Arrangements by Raymond Funeral Service.
