Mrs. Doreen Alice Ward Green of Solomons, MD passed from this life on October 16, 2006 at the age of 80.

A native of Walthamstow, England, she was the beloved wife of Herbert James Green, who preceded her in death in 1993, after 46 years of marriage. Doreen was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. In 1959 she moved to the United States with her husband Bert and their two young sons and became a U.S. citizen in 1973. After residing in Stoughton, MA for 31 years, Doreen and Bert retired to Fearrington, NC to be near their son, Derek and his family. Last year Doreen made her final move to Solomons, MD where she was near her son, Peter and his family. Diminutive in stature and strong in will, Doreen will be fondly remembered for her lilting laugh, dry wit, and tenacious spirit.

She is survived by two loving sons, Peter David Green and his wife, Lynne of Solomons, MD, Derek James Green and his wife, Carol of Hillsborough, NC and two dear brothers, Ronald Ward (Midge), of Walthamstow, England, and Ed Ward (Dawn) of Morningston, Australia. She was "Nana" to her wonderful grandchildren, 1st Lt. Nathaniel Douglas Green, USMC, Carlsbad, CA(Laura), Jennifer Kate Green of Wilmington, NC, Audrey Bancroft Green of Hillsborough, NC and step-granddaughters, Kari Champlin (Mark) of Annapolis, MD and Stacy Gardner of Wilmington, NC. Her memory will also be cherished by nieces and nephews in America, England and Australia.

Doreen was preceded in death by her husband Bert, her parents, Alice Louisa O'Connell and Robert James Henry Ward, of Leyton, England and her sister, Winnie Ward Gaultier of Stoughton, MA.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Ascension, Lexington Park, MD on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be on October 28, 2006 in Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, Chapel Hill, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Calvert Hospice, P.O. Box 838, Prince Frederick, MD 20678.

Arrangements by the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD.
