Jane Mattingly Gough, long-time resident of Leonardtown, Maryland, passed away peacefully at Spring Village at Wildewood Assisted Living Community on Thanksgiving evening, Thursday, November 24, 2016. Born in Baltimore on April 16, 1934 Jane and her family returned to Leonardtown when she was a young child. Jane lived in her family home until her health no longer allowed.
Jane graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Leonardtown. She worked as a radiology assistant at St. Mary's County Health Department. Later, Jane took a position as a secretary at Cedar Lane Senior Living Community where she worked until her retirement. She was a caring and devoted daughter and sister. She lovingly cared for her mother throughout a prolonged illness. She was well known in the community for providing kindness and her famous molded salad to families who had experienced the loss of a loved one.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph Marion Gough, Sr. and Violet Sophia Mattingly Gough. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Marion Gough, Jr.; her sisters, Mary Catherine Thompson and Massey Connelly; and her nephew, Maurice Chapman Thompson, IV.
Jane is survived by her beloved cousin, Bernard Beaven of Leonardtown; nephew, Howard (Kerrie) Thompson of Hollywood; Jo Ann (Wayne Guy) Gough of Leonardtown; Mary Leigh (Keith) Harless of Lexington Park; Jeanette Thompson of Hollywood, MD; Massey (Dale) Rausch of Leonardtown; Nancy Jane Martinez of Homosassa, FL; and Marion Sophia Phelps of Coronado, CA.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with prayers recited at 7:00 p.m., at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend John Nguyen on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady's Catholic Church, 41410 Medley's Neck Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Jane's family wishes to express their most sincere gratitude to the faithful staff at Spring Village at Wildewood and Always There Companion Care. The expert care, affection and compassion they showed to Jane and her family will never be forgotten. We also thank the truly amazing people from Hospice of St. Mary's for the dedicated care they gave.
