Thomas Benedict Yates, 61, of Waldorf, MD passed away on November 22, 2016 in La Plata, MD. Thomas was the son of the late Thomas Benedict Yates and the late Agnes Bernice Young Yates. He was born in Leonardtown, MD on January 28, 1955. Thomas was predeceased by his sister, Diane Elizabeth Yates.

Thomas worked at Lowes in Waldorf, MD after his retirement from the military. He was a Redskins fan, enjoyed playing cards, dancing and family gatherings.

Thomas is survived by son, Thomas Benedict Yates (Shawnta); brothers, Joseph Francis Yates, Michael David Yates (Shirley); sisters, Catherine Ann Bush (John), Sharon Marie Veney; Angela Bencine Greene, Agnes Charlene Yates; grandchildren, Ty'Juan Leon Yates, Tay'Shaun Alexander Yates, Ta'Niya Alasia Yates; his former wife Ruth Yates and many other relatives and friends.

Family will received friends for Thomas' visitation on Friday, December 2, 2016 from 9-11am with a Funeral Service at 11am at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623. Arrangements by Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home.
