Carnell 'Carney' Poole, 69, of La Plata, Maryland went peacefully to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ on November 18, 2016, at 12:05 p.m. Carnell was born on July 13, 1947 in Oakland, California to the late Frank Poole and Barbara Wyatt.

Carnell joined the United States Marine Corps in December 1966 and served three tours in Vietnam as a machine gunner. He served his country honorably, receiving numerous medals, including the 'Purple Heart'.

Near the end of his military service, Carnell met and married the 'love of his life', Elaine. They had a military wedding, on November 22, 1969, in Washington, D.C., at St. Luke's Catholic Church. From this union, two children were born, Sean and Kenya.

Carnell served for 30 years as employee of the federal government with the National Park Service. He served in various capacities (site manager, law enforcement ranger, interpretive ranger, concessions specialist, safety officer, and fire firefighter).

Carnell was a devoted husband, father, Papa, and friend. He loved his family 'unconditionally'. Visitation with family will be on Wednesday November 23, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Ave., La Plata, Maryland. Interment will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation, American Heart Association, or the Hospice of St. Mary's County, MD. Arrangements by Adams Funeral Home.
