Thomas Walter Jones was born May 22, 1933 in La Plata, Maryland. A lifetime resident of La Plata, "Tommy," as he was more affectionately called, was baptized at an early age and remained a member of Christ Episcopal Church in La Plata, Maryland.
He was the son of the late Naomi Inez (Thomas) Jones and the late James Walter Jones. He was educated in the Charles County Public School System and graduated from Bel Alton High School in 1951. Tommy attended Radio School in Washington, D.C. and was inducted into the Army, serving during the Korean War from 1953-1955.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, he began working at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. In 1964, he married Geneva Jenkins. They were married 42 years until her passing.
Tommy retired from N.I.H. and worked for Beretta Gun Factory and Pep Boys. Tommy was mechanically-minded and he also loved to travel.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Ethel Makle and Dorothy Johnson, aunt, Odell Thomas, sister-in-law, Alice Mason, brother-in-law, Thomas Prout, his caregiver and friend, La Wan Harris, his dog, "Ricky", nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Viewing, Wednesday evening, June 8, 2016 from 6 to 8pm, at Christ Episcopal Church, 112 Charles Street, La Plata, Maryland 20646 and on Thursday, June 9th, 10am until time of Service, 11am. Interment, Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland. Arrangements provided by Thornton Funeral Home.
