![]() Virginia Dell (Rudy) Meredith was born in Chesterfield County, Virginia, on December 19, 1912. She was born on the family farm and loved helping her father with the daily chores. When she was of school age she walked four miles to a two room school every day. By the time she went to high school, the first car had been invented.
Her social life was centered around church, and at a church picnic she met George L. Meredith. They were married on June 30th, 1934. They moved to Washington, D.C. where George got a job as a union electrician, and Virginia began working in a beauty shop and later became a beautician. After a few years they left Washington and moved to Landover Hills in Prince George's County where they bought a house. In May, 1941, they had their first child Joyce, followed by Grace, George and Johnny. Virginia opened up her own beauty shop in the back of her house where she worked daily doing hair, closing the doors to the shop when she turned 75. Life in Landover Hills was good and her family was her life. She loved everything about being a mother and wife and was wonderful at both. As her four children grew, each of them had children of their own. "Nanny" and "Pop Pop" have 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Nanny very much enjoyed seeing the children and keeping up with what was going on in each of their lives. After her husband George died, she moved to Calvert County with her daughter and son-in-law, Grace and Billy Jarboe. She lived there eight wonderful years. There were always family gatherings and family members coming and going, and she was a part of it all. Virginia D. Meredith had a full and wonderful life, and she loved every minute of her 95 years. Her service is a celebration of her life. A visitation will be held Friday, May 9 from 7:30 – 8:00 at Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church, 155 E. Mt. Harmony Road, Owings, MD.
