Henry Irving Scott, Jr., 87, a CIA Personnel Officer, business owner and World War II veteran, died May 1st, 2008 of complications due to a stroke at the Washington Home in Northwest.

He was a resident of Wicomico Beach (Newburg), and Wicomico Shores, MD. He was born and raised in Washington D.C. and a longtime resident of North Chevy Chase and Wicomico Beach, MD.

He attended Wilson High School and University of Maryland, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He served in World War II as a pilot, flying C47s with the Army Air Corp's 438th Troop Carrier Group flying missions into France and Germany. After the war he served in the Air Force Reserve raising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Shortly after World War II, Mr. Scott owned Gordon's Radio & TV in Northwest, where he was recruited by the CIA to be a communications officer. He spent 23 years with the CIA and retired in 1975, including two overseas tours in Germany and Okinawa, Japan. After retirement, he started an office supply store in Kensington, retiring again in 1981. Until his death, Mr. Scott was an avid tennis player and played at the Edgemoor Club in Bethesda and Wicomico Shores Club. He was also in active member in Christ Church, Wayside, MD for more than 50 years.

He wife of 58 years, Vera Louise Scott, preceded him in death in 2001. Survivors include his wife of 4 years, Irene Morgan of Wicomico Shores, her four children, and his 6 children. Henry I. Scott, III, of Mobile, AL, Duane F. Scott of Silver Spring, Shelley L. Scott of Reston, VA, Vera M. Kopach of New Baltimore, VA, Stacy E. Scott of Fort Collins, CO, Phillip N. Scott of Silver Spring, MD, and 10 grandchildren.

A Viewing will be held on Monday, May 5, 2008 from 3-5 pm & 7-9 pm at the AREHART-ECHOLS FUNERAL HOME, P.A. in La Plata, MD. A Service will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 11 am at the Christ Church in Wayside, MD. Interment will take place at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers can be made to Christ Church-Wayside P.O. Box 177, Newburg, MD. 20664.
