![]() William Earnshaw "Doc" Blandford, 75, of Hughesville, MD passed away November 19, 2015 in La Plata, MD. Born February 12, 1940 in Washington DC, he was the son of the late Thomas Ray Blandford, Sr. and Ellen Earnshaw Blandford.
Doc was a dedicated educator for thirty years in the Prince George's County Public School System. He taught civics at Crossland High School and earlier taught at Roger B Taney Middle School. He also worked as a meat cutter at Giant and B.K. Miller and at Publix in Florida. Doc was an animal lover and always had pet dogs and cats, many of which he had rescued. One of his true passions was soccer; he played soccer throughout his life and coached the game as well. He played in high school, at Mount St Mary's and later with the Washington DC Internationals. In the early 1970's he founded a girls' soccer team which evolved into the Camp Springs Women's Soccer Club. Predeceased by his parents and siblings James Blandford and Betty Graves, he is survived by his companion Fred Tournay, friend and caregiver Robin Dressler; brother Thomas Blandford Jr., and sister Mary Ellen Wells. Family will welcome friends for a life celebration on Monday, November 30, 2015 from, 4:00 to 8:00 PM with prayers at 7:00 PM at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A funeral mass led by Father Fred Close will be held Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church Piscataway, 13401 Piscataway Road, Clinton, MD 20735. |
