![]() Airman Craig Nicholas Mertens, 22 formerly of Mechanicsville MD who was stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona, was killed as a result of a motorcycle accident when a SUV pulled out in front of him.
He was born May 29, 1993 in Silver Spring, MD. The son of Deborah Buchanan Mertens-Marzi and Eric Clinton Mertens. Step parents Bill Marzi and Lisa Mertens. Craig was a graduate of Chopticon High School and shortly after graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He loved snowboarding in Colorado with his family, playing basketball, sports and four wheeling with his friends. He was a Redskins fan. His most enjoyable pleasure was riding his motorcycle and being with his new friend Becca Sean and their new rescue dog Precious (Presh). In addition to his parents he is survived by one brother at home Brad Marzi. Maternal grandmother Virginia Luciano (Jim) Comilla. Paternal grandparents Robert and Joan Mertens. His two aunts Bonnie (Tom) Eaton and Brenda (Don) Stephenson one uncle Daryl (Phyllis) Mertens. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to an animal rescue/shelter or charity of your choice.
