Leonard Johnson Downs, Sr., 79, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away on October 8, 2015 in Mechanicsville, MD. Born August 25, 1936 in Oraville (Scravel Town), MD to the late James Floyd Downs and the late Annie Adell Buckler Downs.

Leonard loved the farm. He enjoyed watching #88 Dale Earnhardt-NASCAR and western movies with John Wayne. Crabbing, Ernest Tubb's music, whistling, and playing cards, pitch was what he did in his free time.

Leonard was predeceased by his wife, Betty Rebecca Buckler Downs; son, Bryan W. Downs; brothers, James "Bugs" F. Downs, Preston "Freeze" Downs and Robert E. Downs.

He is survived by his sons, Leonard J. Downs, Jr. (Pam), David R. Downs (Cheryl), Ray A. Downs, Larry A. Downs, Matthew N. Downs (Kristin); daughters, Sissy Thompson (Ricky), Nancy L. Pilkerton (Allan); sisters, Helen Faunce, Gloria Jean Downs, sixteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends for Leonard's Life Celebration on Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 2 to 4pm and from 6 to 8pm with Prayers at 7:00p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 10:00a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church 29297 Old Village Road, Mechanicsville, MD 20659 with Father Tietjen officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601. Arrangements provided by Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home.
