Joan Carolina Long, 80, of La Plata, MD (previously of Ft. Washington, MD) passed away on October 2, 2015 at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center. Joan was born in Washington, DC on May 17, 1935 to the late Stuart and Milda Bennett. Joan is also predeceased by her sister, Audrey Hink.

Joan is survived by her loving husband, Billy Long; son, Mark Long and his wife, Amy of Sterling, VA; daughters, Deborah Long and Leslie Long of Waldorf, MD; sister, Marsha Souder of Solomon's Island, MD; and granddaughter, Caitlin Michelle Curtis.

Joan graduated from Suitland High School in 1957. She was employed for a short time by Accacia Life Insurance Company in Washington, DC. Joan was primarily a homemaker who enjoyed her family and crabs.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, 211 St. Mary's Ave., La Plata, MD; Interment to take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements provided by Arehart-Echols Funeral Home.
