![]() Mary Magdalen Butler passed into God's hands on August 17, 2015. She was a dedicated wife, loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a wonderful example of faith, hope and love. She was born March 20, 1925 in Charles County, Maryland to the late Robert and Edith Greenfield. She had one sister and one brother.
She married Oscar DeSales Butler in 1939. They made their home in Bryantown, MD and were blessed with seven children, four boys and three girls. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and she attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bryantown, MD. She was a Eucharist Minister and a dedicated member of St. Mary's Ladies Sodality. Mary was a strong, independent woman that was a source of strength for many. This was especially handy for keeping her sons in line. Her love for food fed many on Sunday afternoon. Her grandchildren mostly remember her roast beef and sweet potato dinners. They also remember her festive decorations at Christmas time. She gave great hugs and her family's heart is comforted knowing she is in God's arms now. She is survived by her daughters Edith Thompson, Alice Bell, and Francine McLean; son-in-law John Bell; sister Susanna Wade; sister-in-law Clara Mae Greenfield; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar DeSales Butler; her four (4) sons Joseph Michael Butler; Louis DeSales Butler, Oscar Jerome Butler, and Lawrence Edward Butler; brother DeSales Greenfield; and her son-in-law Louis Thompson. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
