Dominic Emelio, 72, of Chesapeake Beach, MD, died on April 13, 2008 at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick of natural causes.

He was born on November 26, 1935 to Richard Salvatore and Mary Josephine Smith Emelio in Washington, DC. He attended public schools and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1954. Before his retirement as a Boatswains Mate 1st Class in 1974, Dominic served his nation with honor in Vietnam.

A life-long Washington Redskins Fan, his Redskins themed van was a familiar sight in Calvert County and his game day parties the stuff of legend.

Dominic is preceded in death by his parents; his wives Doris Flynt and Margaret Marley; his sisters Joanne Cunningham and Mary Elwood; and a daughter Cheryl Ann Emelio.

He is survived by his beloved companion Shirley Schellin; his children, James Anthony "Tony" Emelio of Stafford, VA; Mark Anthony Emelio of Borden, IN; Rose Ann Emelio of Chesapeake Beach, MD; Susan Ann Haselden of Augusta WV; and Richard Anthony Emelio of Lexington, KY; his siblings Carol Newton of Lothian, MD; Richard W. Emelio of Millsboro, DE; and Toni Emelio Doucette of Chesapeake Beach, MD. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dominic will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 11:00 AM.
