Shelton Harris Plumer, Sr., age 90, died on July 8, 2015 in La Plata. Born on December 27, 1924 in Jewel, Calvert County, MD to the late Lewis Andrew Chaney Plumer and the late Ethel Gertrude Harris Plumer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret Plumer Weems, her husband, James Loch "Buddy" Weems, Gertrude Plumer Simms, her husband, Charles Francis Simms, Sr., and nephew, Charles Francis Simms, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Ann Cranford Plumer.

He is survived by his sons, Shelton H. Plumer, Jr. of Murrell's Inlet, SC, Lewis C. Plumer of Easton, MD and Timothy D. Plumer and his wife, Norma of Bel Alton, MD; grandchildren, Justin Plumer, Valerie Anderson, Michael Plumer, Bryan Plumer, Andrew Plumer and Tyler Plumer; and great-grandchildren, Hunter James, Delaney Anderson and Cole Anderson.

Mr. Plumer was a member of the "Greatest Generation" and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy as a Military Policeman. He was headquarters guard for General Mark Clark, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant before his Honorable Discharge. Upon leaving the service, he returned to his family farm in Huntingtown, MD where he grew tobacco with his father.

He subsequently held a number of positions away from the farm mostly in the hardware field. Working for the Lusby Motor Company, May Hardware Company and finally as Vice-President and part owner of Mitchell Supply, Inc. in La Plata, MD, retiring in 1988. Known for his friendly, courteous and helpful nature, he was most often described by others as a "Perfect Gentleman".

Arrangements are being handled by Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, 211 St. Mary's Ave., La Plata, MD. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 13, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 3100 Broomes Island Rd., Port Republic, MD. Interment immediately following in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren; Honorary Pallbearer will be his good friend of many years, Mr. Harold Hayes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a non-profit of the donor's choice.
