Oliver "O.D." David Akers, 71, of Leonardtown, MD died April 11, 2008 at his residence. Born May 31, 1936 in Kegley, WV he was the son of the late George Earlden and Pearl Akers.
He is survived by his daughter Marneda Kaye Grable of Virginia Beach, VA and two granddaughters Amber Marie Butera and her husband Sal and Heather Renee Tucker all of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by one brother George Akers and his wife Jetty of Princeton, WV and three sisters Betty Hebbert and her husband Marvin of Leesburg, FL, Shirley Meadows and her husband Dewey of Narrows, VA and Shelby Jean Mabry of Bland, VA as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He operated a shoe repair shop in Leonardtown, MD for over 48 years. He was known around St. Mary's County for his kindness and generosity. He had many friends. A Memorial Service will be held at the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown, MD at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 17, 2008 with Pastor John Fields officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of St. Mary's, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
