Thomas Francis Brown, Sr., 89, of Mechanicsville passed away June 17, 2015 at his residence in Mechanicsville, MD. Born July 11, 1925 in Bradbury Heights, MD he was the son of William George Brown and Annie May Grimley Brown.

During the start of World War II, Thomas joined the Navy as a Signalman on the ship LCI (Landing Craft Infantry) 680. After the war, he remained employed by the Navy and eventually retired as an Air Force Master Sergeant. After serving our nation, he began a second career with the State of Maryland, Department of Parole and Probation from which he retired after twenty years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Freemasons, Camp Springs Lodge #227 and was a HAM radio operator. He enjoyed baseball, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends.

Predeceased by his parents; wife, Helen F. Brown; son, Thomas Brown, Jr. and two brothers. Thomas is survived by his partner, Iris Smith; sons, William G. Brown, M.D. (Janet F. Brown, M.D.) and Steve Brown; daughters, Kathy Brown and Helene Hunter (Thomas); four grandchildren, Nathaniel Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Kimberly Nelimark and Jennifer Stefanik; and 4 great grandchildren, Adelia Ruth, Josephine Nicola, George Edward Stefanik and Benjamin William Nelimark.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 3:00p.m. – 6:00p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Service and prayers will be conducted at 6:00p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols by the Freemasons, including eulogy from family and friends and then closing prayers; Deacon Robert Andrews.

Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Arrangements provided by Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home.
